And, in the Jerusalem Creek arm of Lake Eildon, rainbow trout to 4kg are being caught trolling lures.

Land-based anglers are also doing well in the Eildon pondage, with brown and rainbow trout to 4.2kg taking Powerbait, maggots, worms and lures.

In the Western District, fly fishers at Lake Bullen Merri are catching rainbow trout to 4kg, while nearby, at Lake Purrumbete, brown trout to 4.2kg are being caught on soft plastic lures and flies.

Murray Wilson's BMS fly is a favourite on these lakes.

The Merri River at Warrnambool is also fishing well with brown trout to 1.4kg being caught on lures.

The Hopkins River has estuary perch to 40cm and bream to 35cm being caught on flies and lures.

Fishing along the Murray River is slow, reports Rod Mackenzie.

At Swan Hill, anglers are catching small Murray cod and yellowbelly to about 1kg on spinnerbaits and bardi grubs.

Small numbers of cod to a metre long have been caught at Robinvale by anglers trolling large, bibbed, minnow lures.

At Wentworth, there are reports of cod to a metre long and yellowbelly to 1.4kg being taken on lures.

The Wakool River is producing just-size cod for anglers trolling lures.

In Port Phillip Bay, salmon to about 500g are being caught on metal lures from piers and rocks.

Top spots include Blairgowrie, Mt Martha, Mornington and Frankston. Corio Bay inner harbour continues to produce snapper to 5.5kg on pilchard, squid and silver whiting.

Large numbers of garfish to 40cm are being caught from piers at Mordialloc, Frankston and Mornington on silverfish and maggots.

The Hotties at Newport is producing tailor to 1kg on 25g metal lures.

In South Gippsland, the Tortoise Head bank in Western Port has produced King George whiting to 40cm on pipi and squid.

A few snapper from 7 to 11kg have also been caught.

Kilcunda beach is producing salmon to 1.5kg on bluebait and surf poppers.

Flat Rocks at Inverloch has been good for silver trevally and salmon to about 1kg.

Anderson Inlet has school whiting to 35cm taking pipi and bass yabbies.

Venus Bay beaches are producing salmon averaging about 500g.

In the Gippsland Lakes, the Mitchell, Nicholson and Tambo Rivers are producing bream to 1kg and mullet on prawn.

Hollands Landing is fishing well for bream to 1.5kg and yelloweye mullet, and they are being caught on peeled prawn and soft plastic lures.

At Paynesville, mullet and bream are biting on local prawn, and the jetties at Metung are good for bream and silver trevally.

Lakes Entrance has tailor, silver trevally and yelloweye mullet biting near the entrance on pilchard and glassies, with salmon taking bluebait off the surf. The jetties are producing luderick.

Lake Tyers has produced a few bream to 40cm on peeled prawn.

Marlo estuary has bream to 50cm, luderick, estuary perch and tailor, and the beaches are holding plenty of salmon, flathead and tailor.

The bottom lake, at Mallacoota, is producing salmon on lures.

Bream are biting in the Genoa River, and the Betka River has estuary perch and bream.
