THE Western Victoria Viticulture Seminar will be held at the Ararat Town Hall on October 3.

The theme will be Environmental Mud Map, with grape growers and winemakers learning how to keep up with a demanding global wine market while reducing their environmental footprint.

The seminar will address practical applications in viticulture to achieve environmental best practice and sustainable management techniques.

Speakers include Lawrie Stanford from the Australian Wine and Brand Corporation and Dr Linda Thomson from the Centre for Environmental Stress and Adaptation Research.

WIne great dies

WELL-KNOWN King Valley wine pioneer Guy Darling has died.

Mr Darling, who owned Darling Estate Wines, was 83.

He was a member of the MVW board for nine years, retiring in December last year, and also served as chairman of the Wine Grape Growers Council of Australia (now Wine Grape Growers Australia).
