A PIONEERING weekend will spark the imagination to celebrate the life of a great woolly inventor.

Best known for developing the sheep shearing machine in 1872, Irish born Frederick York Wolseley moved to Australia and found work on a Murray River sheep station in Thule.

The entrepreneur, inventor and pastoralist has been given his very own weekend to honour his contribution to the wool industry.

The weekend will run over four days jam-packed with everything "Wolseley'' from sheep and wool activities and Wolseley collector displays to sheep shearing demonstrations and a John Wolseley art exhibition.

Pioneer Settlement marketing and promotions officer Tanya Penny says she is really excited about the weekend and that they have already received a lot of interest.

"We expect between 500 to 1000 people to attend," Tanya says.

"It will be great fun for young and old."

Kicking off with the sheep and wool events at the Swan Hill Show on Friday October 3, the weekend will feature a wool fashion parade and traditional bush dinner on Saturday.

And finally an activation Sunday of auto exhibitions and unique displays will round out the original weekend of fun.

"I'm most excited about the wool fashion parade," Tanya says.

"But I know the art gallery's special Worseley exhibition will be worth a look."

The Worseley weekend is a one off event and Tanya says it will definitely be a day full of reminiscing.

"I expect there will be a lot of conversations starting with.. back in my day," Tanya says.
