ONE of the last coloured spinning mills in Australia, Creswick Woollen Mills, is holding it's first Natural Fibres Textile Exhibition on October 4-5.

Creswick Woollen Mills sales and marketing manager and textile enthusiast Alison Wyers says the exhibition will show off the works of locals in the area.

"Some of who us have studied textile design and others like me are just textile minded, Alison says.

"We can't wait to showcase what we enjoy doing."

Felting and sewing up a fibre storm, the locals are ready to decorate the beautiful old mills and kickstart October in style.

The mill that began operating in 1947, has spent 60 years perfecting it's art of using natural fibres including alpaca wool to produce a range of bedding products and offers visitors the chance to see history still spinning today.

"It is the first proper exhibition held at the mills and a lot of one-off pieces will be on sale," Alison says.

Visitors can purchase a range of colourful design pieces including homewares, cushions, blankets and bags.

Melbourne based designer, Verity Lougoon, will also be giving free craft and design demonstrations, with sections like 'how to make your own fashion accessories'.
