THIS month marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the first Mad Max movie, which was filmed mostly around Little River, near Geelong, Victoria.

The Little River Historical Society plans to celebrate the occasion with a full program of activities this weekend.

The festivities start with a screening of the movie at 7.30pm on Friday at the Wyndham Cultural Centre in Werribee.

On Saturday night, there's a dinner which will feature movie stuntman Glen Paige as a guest speaker.

Activities during the two days will centre on the Little River Mechanics Institute hall.

There will be replicas of cars and motorcycles used in the movie, photos, lucky ticket draws, continuous screening of Mad Max footage, bus tours to various film locations and rides in a pursuit car.

The hall will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
