THE demand for easy-care, dual-purpose Merinos was the feature of the Glendemar sale at Marnoo, Victoria, which saw a total clearance of 124 rams for a spectacular $2635 average.
The Duxson family which markets the Glendemar rams as the MPM or multi-purpose Merino has been claiming that its big framed plain body sheep doesn't require mulesing.
Local Landmark agent Don Murphy said the sale which boosted its average by more than $700 on last year, was a vindication to the breeding and marketing skills of the Duxson family - father Ken and sons, Ben and Dwain.
Mr Murphy said what made the sale so remarkable was that lowest price was $1500 for the first pen, while the highest price was only $8250.
Rams sold to Western Australia, South Australia, NSW and strong contingent of Victorian buyers.
Another feature of the sale was the inclusion of six rams from the South African Konsortium stud.
These rams were produced from embryos. And while this dual purpose Merino looked very plain compared to any of the Australian types they still attracted interest from local breeders prepared to try them/
They sold from $2250 down to $1000.
