The Kraus family is celebrating the German Oktoberfest in a uniquely Australian way.
The family's brewery, Bridge Road Brewers, is celebrating its fourth Oktoberfest and brewery owner Ben Kraus says this year's event will be the biggest and best yet.
"It's not just a booze up," Ben says.
"It's a great day for the whole family."
This weekend, October 11 and 12, the small brewery in the heart of Beechworth will not only serve up some great-tasting local ales but also offer a wide range of entertainment, not to mention activities for kids.
"There will be traditional German music by the Ohm-Pah band and visitors are encouraged to dress up in German costume and get into the spirit," Ben says.
Describing the celebration as the Royal Melbourne Show minus the agriculture, Ben says the two-day event is a great way to experience a bit of German culture while supporting local producers.
Visitors can choose from nine unique blends and complement their chosen thirst-quencher with something tasty from the Brewery's range of giant pretzels and gourmet pizza.
And the introduction of a special German-designed larger will be on offer to earlybirds, allowing them to sample an ale made with the produce of local chestnut farmers.
The Beechworth Oktoberfest is held at the Bridge Road Brewers, which is off Ford St, behind Tanswells Hotel.
It will be open from 11am to 6pm both days.
