FERTILE, secure country is all that Holbrook farmer Henry Parker knows.

His family were among the original settlers in the area and Henry bought Canungra in 1960.

"It was a World War II soldier settlement block, and complemented the other country we had," Henry said.

While the Holbrook region in NSW comprises flats and hills, Canungra is all flat country, surrounded by hills.

Henry has been running 300 breeders, a cross of Angus, Simmental and Shorthorn cows. He sends the weaner calves to another property for fattening to feeder weight.

Canungra has had a constant pasture renovation program, with a base of phalaris, clovers and rye grasses and lucerne. The lucerne grows well on the western side of the property which has sandy loam soils. The balance of the country is heavier clay loams through the middle of the property.

"Every inch of the property is arable," Henry said.

He has also cut hay each year, and the property is "self-sufficient".

"(Our cut) varies depending on the season, but usually it is about 1800 big square bales," Henry said.

Improvements at Canungra include two large steel haysheds (18mx15m and 49mx9m), which have 700 tonne capacity.

Canungra is divided into seven main paddocks with several holding paddocks with steel and concrete fencing, half of which is electrified.

Shade and shelter is provided through large red gum, yellow and grey box trees that are scattered across the farm.

The water at Canungra is also a standout feature, with a 20-metre well pumping to a 90,000-litre tank, which then reticulates water to troughs around the property, the garden and homestead. There is also another 90,000-litre rainwater storage tank near the house.

The three-bedroom home was built in 1970 and has two bathrooms and plenty of living space. The kitchen has been recently renovated. There is also a great outdoor entertaining area, with an in-ground salt-water pool and a synthetic floodlit tennis court.

Improvements at Canungra include a workshop with concrete floor and power, concrete and steel cattle yards with a working capacity of 300 and an undercover area and power and water. There is also a race, crush, scales and ramp.

Canungra is 10km from Holbrook, and 74km from Wagga Wagga and Albury.
