AND the biggest-selling white wine in Australia is... (drum roll please), from New Zealand.
The Sunday Star Times reports that corks have been popping at New Zealand’s Delegat’s Wine Estate amid news that its Oyster Bay sauvignon blanc is now the biggest-selling white wine in Australia, by volume and value.
The report says AC Nielsen data shows that the drop from across the Tasman, outsells any other white in the Australian market.
Delegat’s managing director Jim Delegat’s said Oyster Bay was now exported to 30 countries, with the number one spot in Australia capping a period of strong growth for the company.
Mr Delegat told the Sunday Star he was confident of growing Delegat’s sales of other wine varieties in Australia. And he could be right, with Oyster Bay’s pinot noir is the second most popular drop of that variety in Australia, while it’s chardonnay is also a top 20 seller.
