WARRNAMBOOL'S agricultural show is one of the Western District's finest.
It always attracts some of the state's best horses, and with a dual-ring show and breed rings, there was plenty for exhibitors to do.
A strong local group of riders more than held its own against the invaders from other parts of Victoria.
The group included Marcia Beard, whose lovely Beckworth Romany Duet won champion ridden pony over 12.2 hands, and supreme champion riding pony exhibit, Penny Smith, who won champion junior rider award and rode Leewood Oliver Twist to be champion Galloway.
It also included Vicki Maurice-Smith, whose charming Shetland, Oak Park Juliet, was judged champion pony 12.2 hands and under.
In showjumping, another local, Mortlake's Morris Clarke, dominated the open classes, riding Cherie Edmonds, and Anne Bryant's skewbald, Contagious, won the open championship and A and B grade classes.
Michael Christie found Warrnambool a happy hunting ground, winning one of the champion hack awards with Rule, and a champion Galloway sash with Mirinda Eyeliner.
In the stock horse section, Terry Donovan's Mjay Forget Me Not was champion led horse, and Mardie Johnson's Kardinia Attitude was champion ridden and champion working stock horse.
It was good to see the Mountain and Moorland breeds catered for, as they are proving themselves as performance ponies.
Diana Brown's lovely Connemara Glenormiston Tess was champion led and champion ridden Mountain and Moorland. Reserve to her in both sections was the Mashiter family's New Forest Yarborough Bertie Wooster.
Supreme champion Shetland pony was the stallion Wandarra Pippin, shown by N. Wilson.
The Hackett family dominated the harness section, winning several classes and the supreme championship with Coastal Crystal.
