THE Victorian Government expects $30 million in tourist revenue to flow into regional Victoria over the next two years as a result of offering Melbournians low fares to country centres.
The government yesterday launced a $1.3 million See Things Differently advertising campaign, which includes TV, print and online ads aimed at boosting regional train tourism.
The campaign promotes areas such as Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Echuca.
V/Line's Family Traveller ticket will alsoow two adults and four children to get return off-peak travel from Melbourne to Geelong for $24.80, to Ballarat for $40, to Bendigo for $60 and to Echuca for $77.60.
V/Line chief executive Rob Barnett said regional commuters had been the force behind passenger records breaking four times this year.
"As a result we have some busy peak trains," he said.
"But this boom is largely one-way traffic, so there is big potential to grow passenger numbers on off-peak and weekend trains."
