THE lower Mitta Mitta River has brown trout to 2kg being taken on worms and mudeyes, bladed lures and flies.

Ted Barber at Mitta Mitta reports successful fly patterns include green Tom Jones, size 14 Parachute Hackle Duns, Caddis Emergers and gold bead-headed Brown Nymphs.

Geoff Lacey at Tawonga says the Ovens River from Bright to Porepunkah is producing brown and rainbow trout to 450g on all methods. The Kiewa River has good numbers of brown and rainbow trout to 650g taken on worms and lures. Fly fishers are doing well in the evenings with size 16-18 dry fly imitations as trout feed on caddis moths and beetles.

The upper Mitta Mitta River at Anglers Rest is producing brown trout on worms and bladed lures.

The Snowy Creek at Granite Flat is producing brown trout on bait, lures and flies.

In the Wimmera, Lake Fyans and Lake Bellfield in the Grampians are producing trout and redfin.

Doug Lucas in the Western District reports that Lake Bullen Merri has slowed but anglers fishing deep have caught Chinook salmon to 3.6kg on pilchard fillet and brown trout to 3.2kg on gudgeon.

At Lake Purrumbete, redfin to 500g, rainbow trout to 2kg and Chinook salmon to 4.9kg are being caught trolling lures.

The Carlisle and Gellibrand Rivers have brown trout to 500g being caught on flies.

Aire and Gellibrand River estuaries are producing bream to 40cm on shrimp, and Doug says the Gellibrand has also produced small numbers of mulloway to 75cm and estuary perch to 35cm on lures.

Black shell and shrimp baits are producing bream in the Hopkins River, with estuary perch taking poppers at night.

Port Campbell pier has calamari squid and pinkies.

Salmon to 1.5kg are being caught at Peterborough, Clifton, Princetown and Johanna beaches on cut pilchard baits in conjunction with a surf popper or soft plastic lure on the top leader.

On the Great Ocean Road, salmon to 700g are being caught at Apollo Bay and the pier at Lorne has silver trevally, salmon and seven-gill sharks.

Rock anglers fishing from Jump Rock and Artillery Rocks are catching salmon, pinkies to 35cm and King George whiting. In Port Phillip Bay, snapper from 1.5kg to 8kg are off Frankston, Mt Eliza, Seaford, Carrum, Clifton Springs and St Leonards.

Best baits are pilchards, squid, silver whiting, garfish, red rockets. Snook are in good numbers off Indented Head and near Pt Henry in Corio Bay.

In Western Port, snapper 2kg-8kg are being caught off Corinella on pilchards and squid.

A 16kg mulloway was caught on fresh squid near Elizabeth Island.

In the Gippsland Lakes, Lakes Entrance has dusky flathead to 46cm, and they are being caught on pilchard fillets and glassies.

Large tailor, salmon and mullet have also been on the chew.

The beach is producing good numbers of salmon on lures and bait in the mornings.

Lake Tyers has bream biting on peeled prawn and a few flathead taking soft plastic lures in the Arms.

The mouth of the Mitchell River is producing bream on prawns and lures, with flathead and estuary perch caught at Eagle Point.

In the Tambo River, bream are biting from the bridge to the mouth on prawn and whitebait.

The Nicholson River has luderick and bream taking prawn.

Flathead and bream are biting off the jetties at Metung and Hollands Landing has bream in good numbers.

Bream, luderick, estuary perch and mullet are being caught in the estuary system at Marlo, and the surf beaches are fishing well with catches of salmon, tailor, flathead, mullet and gummy sharks being caught.

At Bemm River, the fishing has been excellent for bream, luderick, trevally and tailor on sandworm, prawn and lures.

The beaches have been slow for salmon on surf poppers and bluebait.

Mallacoota Inlet is fishing well for dusky flathead on lures.

Bream are best in the Top Lake on prawn baits.

Tailor are biting off the fishing platforms and trevally off the wharf.
