THE Weekly Times reporter Roslyn Lanigan has been named Worksafe Victorian Country Football League Media Personality of the Year.
The decision was announced at the WorkSafe VCFL's 2008 Media Awards today.
And The Weekly Times photographer Yuri Kouzmin scooped the pool winning both photography awards.
Lanigan received the VCFL's major award after a year in which The Weekly Times expanded its football coverage from five pages to eight pages.
Throughout the year Lanigan travelled far and wide to look at volunteers, club management, traditional rivalries, long-forgotten premierships, drought and, of course, the 150th birthday celebrations of football. She even ventured to King Island to report on its three-team competition.
One of her notable achievements was her coverage of the Alberton Football League controversy surrounding Wonthaggi Power.
During the year Lanigan also joined Craig Hutchison and Liam Pickering on Off The Bench across the ACE Radio network, where she quickly became known as the First Lady of Football. She also joined Hutchison and Pickering as they launched their new football show on WIN TV during finals time.
WorkSafe VCFL chief executive Glenn Scott said entries in this year's awards had reached a new high.
"These finalists are a testament to the strength of country football and netball coverage in the media across the state. The service that the media provides to the game of Australian Rules in the regions is nothing less than outstanding," Scott said.
