AN Indonesian fruit and vegetable packer who feared for his life when he complained to his supervisor about being underpaid, has won a $65,000 payout from the Adelaide company.
The 59-year-old man allegedly told workplace inspectors he'd been threatened with dismissal and genuinely feared for his life when his supervisor asked to meet him in the carpark.
He turned to the federal Workplace Ombudsman which found the company, a well-known supplier of fruit and vegetables to supermarkets, restaurants and hospitals, had underpaid him $68,000 over nine years.
The man accepted an offer of $65,000 and while the company escaped legal action, it faces random audits to ensure it's complying with workplace laws.
