ANGLERS have landed $12 million in NSW government funding for projects, including developing gear to improve fish survival rates when they are caught and released.
Other projects include a study into rock fishing fatalities, school education programs and fish and prawn stocking of popular fisheries.
The money is for projects specially designed to enhance recreational fishing over the next three years, Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said today.
He said the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust had allocated $2.9 million to new and ongoing freshwater projects, while more than $9 million would be spent on saltwater fishing.
"These projects are varied and range from science and research, to artificial reefs, and the extremely popular fish aggregating devices (FADS)," Mr Macdonald said.
He said many of the projects would directly help anglers, including fishing guides and installing fish cleaning tables at a number of locations across NSW.
"The trust also funds the publication of the freshwater and saltwater fishing guides," Mr Macdonald said.
"These can be found in the tackle box of most anglers as they outline bag and size limits, information about individual species, useful knots and fishing closures."
The Recreational Fishing Trust is funded by fishing licence fees.
