FARMERS have helped keep the Australian economy from slipping into the red under the weight of the global financial crisis.
The latest national accounts show the economy grew by just 0.1 per cent, seasonally adjusted, in the three months to September.
Agriculture was the star performer, boosting production by more than 14 per cent, while most other sectors struggled.
Released today, the accounts also show annual growth of just 1.9 per cent for the Australian economy, with agriculture again the main contributor (growing by almost 11 per cent).
