MURRAY cod to 30kg are being caught in the Murray River, Rod Mackenzie says.
Most cod are to 65cm. Best areas have been Lake Mulwala, Swan Hill to Pental Island, Tol Tol and Robinvale.
A few yellowbelly are also being caught. Shrimp, bardi grubs and bibbed minnow lures produce best results.
The Wakool River at Kyalite is fishing well for cod to 14kg and yellowbelly to 2kg. Redfin to 1.2kg are being caught in Lake Charm.
In the Alpine region before the weekend rain, the rivers were producing good numbers of trout, most fish in the 400-450g weight range, Geoff Lacey reports.
On the Bogong High Plains, Rocky Valley Reservoir at Falls Creek fishing well for mainly rainbow trout.
Mudeyes presented on a size 8 bait hook under a bubble float and Tassie Devil lures doing well. Pretty Valley Reservoir is also fishing well for trout.
The Ovens River around Bright and Porepunkah is producing mostly rainbow trout and some browns on worms.
The upper Ovens River, from Harrietville to Germantown, is producing rainbow trout to 450g.
The Victoria River at Dinner Plain has rainbow trout to 750g, rising to dry flies.
The upper Mitta Mitta River around Glen Wills has been producing rainbow trout to 500g.
The Bundarra and Cobungra Rivers are producing rainbow trout to 450g.
Mudeyes and scrubworms are producing rainbow trout in the lower Mitta Mitta River.
Snowy Creek at Granite Flat is running slightly high but continues to produce rainbow trout to 400g.
Doug Lucas reports that Lake Purrumbete in the Western District has been firing for brown trout to 4kg being caught on gudgeon fished deep under a bubble float.
The Aire River estuary is producing bream to 44cm on shrimp.
The Curdies River has good numbers of bream in the lake and they are being caught on greyback minnow.
In the Hopkins River, estuary perch to 42cm and bream to 35cm are being caught on lures.
Princetown and Peterborough beaches are steady for salmon to 1.5kg.
In Port Phillip Bay, Brett Torossi says snapper from 1.5 to 8.5kg are being caught in the deep water from Mt Eliza to Mt Martha.
Inshore anglers working soft plastic lures are doing well for snapper from 2 to 5kg between Seaford and Carrum.
Brendan Wing says Western Port has good numbers of snapper from 1.2 to 2.7kg, with an occasional fish to 4.5kg.
The snapper are schooling in the North Arm and the East Arm.
King George whiting to 36cm are being caught on pipi at Balnarring and Tortoise Head bank.
In the Gippsland Lakes, the Mitchell, Tambo and Nicholson Rivers are producing bream on prawn.
At Metung, bream and flathead are being caught on soft plastic lures and local prawn.
Lakes Entrance has trevally, mullet and salmon being caught at Bullock Island.
Lake Tyers has bream, salmon, luderick and flathead caught on prawn, sandworm and lures.
Marlo has bream, luderick, estuary perch and mullet being caught throughout the estuary.
The surf beaches are steady for salmon, tailor, flathead, mullet and gummy sharks on squid and pilchard.
Bemm River has silver trevally and tailor being caught on lures and bream taking prawn.
Mallacoota Inlet has flathead taking lures, bream, luderick and trevally being caught on bait.
