THE competition watchdog should never have been made to manage the federal government's "half baked" GroceryChoice website, the opposition says.
The new services will include adding supermarket and product listings, while consumers will be able to leave feedback about rip offs and specials.
The controversial price surveys will also be distributed on a weekly basis rather than monthly, when the site gets revamped in July.
More than 4,000 supermarkets are likely to be included in the surveys while up to 4,000 products will be listed on the site.
"I do welcome the fact that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will no longer administer the website," opposition consumer affairs spokesman Luke Hartsuyker said in a statement.
"GroceryChoice undermined the integrity of the ACCC which should never have been made to lend its name to such a hoax."
The failure of the site is an embarrassment for the Rudd government, which had no choice but to have it bailed out by Choice, he said.
Mr Hartsuyker said taxpayers deserved to know why the government funded a $13 million website when pricing information was already available to consumers through junkmail and advertising in the media.
