WIDESPREAD rain fell in Western Australia and the north and east of the country last week, as a monsoon trough hovered over the north tropics, the Bureau of Meteorology reports.

Many areas had more than 100mm in the Top End, with a few sites recording falls of more than 250mm.

“Further south, totals in excess of 25 mm were recorded in areas over central and eastern Queensland, eastern NSW, western Tasmania, the Pilbara and the WA interior,” the bureau said.

“Some sites in these areas recorded more than 50 mm with isolated areas in northeast NSW recording more than 100 mm.

“Falls of between 5 and 25 mm were recorded in some of the remaining parts of the tropics, central and eastern Queensland, eastern NSW, Tasmania and WA.

“Falls of between 5 and 25 mm were also recorded in Victoria and western and southern SA. Large areas of southwest WA, eastern SA, south western QLD, western NSW and Victoria saw little or no rain at all.”
