HONDA has delivered its first fuel cell car in Japan.
The Honda FCX Clarity has been leased to the Ministry of the Environment.
This is part of a commitment to lease the car to at least 200 customers in the United States and Japan during the next three years.
There are no immediate plans to offer the fuel cell car in Australia due to a lack of hydrogen re-fuelling stations.
The four-seater FCX Clarity runs on electricity produced by combining hydrogen with oxygen and emits only water vapour.
Honda claims the vehicle is twice as energy efficient as a petrol-electric hybrid with three times more fuel efficiency than a petrol car.
