THE fall in the value of the Australia dollar is starting to bite into the price of imported cars.
Toyota is one of the first car-makers to lift prices for this year, starting with an increase of 4 per cent from January 1.
The price of a base-model Corolla, for example, is up $500 to $20,990.
A standard Prado diesel is up $2000 to $45,100, a GXL Prado diesel is up $1750 to $56,290 and a diesel Grande is up $1403 to $78,087.
A HiLux diesel cab-chassis is up $1000 to $35,490 and a diesel double-cab ute is up $900 to $51,080.
The increases vary according to model demand and what the market will bear.
Meanwhile, Toyota has dropped its supercharged TRD Aurion and HiLux.
The economic slump and cost-cutting are blamed for the decision, although both TRD models met with only modest demand.
