MILLIONS of dollars worth of freight has been stranded in Queensland's northwestern corner after this week's drought-breaking deluge.

Main roads between Queensland and the Northern Territory and throughout the state's far west have been washed away, leaving road trains stranded, The Courier Mail reports.

The Barkly Highway, connecting Camooweal in Queensland's far west to the Northern Territory, is expected to remain closed for up to four weeks.

Loaded with millions of dollars worth of fuel, livestock, food and cement, the freight trucks stuck at Camooweal, Mount Isa and Winton have nowhere to go.

The floodwaters have spread from Burketown to Winton, leaving private properties and stations in Mount Isa, Julia Creek, Cloncurry, Burketown, Doomadgee, Gregory Downs, Urandanji, McKinlay and Georgetown isolated.

A 1300kg food drop is planned for the region on Tuesday.

Transport Workers Union state secretary Hughie Williams estimated the floodwaters had affected up to 50 trucks, with the damage bill running into the millions.
