DOMESTIC wine sales fell 34.7 million litres in November, down 2.2 per cent on the same month last year, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics figures released today.
Sales of Australian-produced white wine were an estimated 16.9 million litres seasonally adjusted for the month, a slide of 1.8 per cent on the month before and 2.4 per cent lower than November 2007.
However, domestic consumers boosted the sales of red and rose wines by 1.5 per cent on the previous year and 1.9 per cent on the previous month to 12.6 million litres.
Exports of Australian-produced wine decreased by 26.3 per cent this month to 50.5 million litres, the ABS reported.
“The value of the exported wine in November 2008 was $189.1 million, a decrease of 25.5 per cent from last month,” the report said.
Australia exported 695.5 million litres, with a total value of $2.5 billion in the twelve months ending November 2008. This was a fall of 11.9 per cent in volume and a decrease of 15.1 per cent in value.
