THE Victorian Farmers Federation grains group will have a new leader in March.
Geoff Nalder will stand down as grains group president at the group's annual conference in Lorne, Victoria.
Mr Nalder said that when he was approached to lead the group in 2007, he would only commit to the role for two years.
"That two years is now coming to an end," he said.
The two previous presidents - Ian Hastings and Ron Hards - had led the group for about four years each.
Nominations for VFF grains group executive close on February 6.
Deputy president Russell Amery, of Wycheproof, and vice-president Andrew Weidemann, of Rupanyup, are believed to be front-runners for the top job.
Nominations for executive positions are likely to emerge after the VFF grains council meets at its scheduled post-harvest meeting at the end of January.
Mr Amery said he was "a possibility" for the presidency.
"I have still got to do some talking to people," he said.
Mr Weidemann said he might nominate.
"I honestly haven't made up my mind," he said.
"But my gut feeling is that I probably won't.
"I've still got a young family and the presidency is a pretty demanding position.
"I will wait to see what other councillors think."
