THE Victorian Department of Primary Industries says it is impossible to accurately determine livestock losses at this early stage.
"In short, we have no bloody idea," said DPI spokesman Alan Everett.
"The Beechworth fires remain the biggest concern with people and human life the top priority."
Up to 1800 properties are under threat in the Beechworth-Yackandanda region.
The DPI will begin their assessment of stock losses in the Western Districts and around Horsham, where large losses are expected before turning their attention to central and north eastern Victoria once those fires are controlled.
"At the moment, the most we can do is assemble teams to assess disticts as soon as the threat has passed," he said.
