VICTORIAN Premier John Brumby expects the death toll from the bushfires to exceed 200 people.
The official death toll stands at 173, with more than 750 homes destroyed.
Mr Brumby was in the Mudgegonga region in the state's northeast today, where people were killed on Saturday, ABC Radio reports.
The Premier said there were still more than 50 people who had yet to be identified, pushing the final toll above 200.
