NSW restockers accounted for than two-thirds of the weaners at Myrtleford and Running Creek feature sales in Victoria's North East today.

Prices, which saw 350kg 12-month-old weaners sell consistently at $600-$650 or $1.70-$1.80/kg, were above the expectations of selling agents Paull & Scollard (Myrtleford) and Running Creek (Brian Unthank Rodwell).

The Myrtleford yarding of 1200 head, of mostly Angus, sold to a top of $715 for a pen 10 Angus with an estimated weight of 400kg.

These were account of J&B Fraser, Harrietville.

The Running Creek feature Hereford attracted a yarding of 860 weaner steers and 120 heifers.

Barry Hicks, from Running Creek topped this sale at $720 with a pen of 24 12-month-old steers with an estimated weight of 420kg ($1.74/kg).

Second draft weaners at Myrtleford sold from $500-$600, while prices for the Herefords at Running Creek were well maintained above $550.

Leading the buying at both Myrtleford and Running Creek was Bathurst agent Charlie Maher of Landmark CTM who bought 300 weaners for Bathurst restocker Matt Byrne.

Mr Byrne was a return client to the Running Creek sale.

Other NSW orders were bought by commission agents Damien Whyte, Andrew Lowe, Peter 'Pluto' Tudor.
Between them they accounted for 800 head.

Wodonga commission buyer Duncan Brown who bought only a few pens, destined for Coonamble, said the many prices were above his limits.

The strength of the sale was reflected in fact that three major bidders at the recent Victorian sales - Denis Henderson, Graeme Ward and Henry Dundas - bought nothing.
