AN era ended today for Te Mania Angus as the Gubbins and McFarlane families held their final sale at their Pardoo property, south of Colac.

The families are moving their entire stud to Mortlake after selling Pardoo, and a large crowd of beef industry heavyweights and agri-politicians turned up to see them off.

Co-principal Tom Gubbins said the sale result was a fitting finale to the stud's Pardoo days.

From the offering of 140, 131 bulls, aged 17.4 months to 19.4 months, sold to a top of $19,000 and average of $4890.

This was a slightly weaker result than last year's Colac autumn sale where 151 bulls sold to an average of $5349, but still strong in light of the difficulties many studs have had in achieving good clearances this season.

Buyer of the top-priced bull, top-ranking for the long fed index in the catalogue at $132, was Jock Harbison of Dunoon Angus at Holbrook. Disappointed under-bidders were fellow NSW Angus seedstock heavyweights Lucinda and Brian Corrigan of Rennylea.

Volume buyers included Dennis Power, general manager of Minnamurra Pastoral Company at Gundagai, buying nine to an average of $9000 and $15,000 top.

Other buyers came from throughout the country.
