ROCHESTER Tigers will start favourites to win back-to-back flags in the Goulburn Valley Football League after knocking off footy giants Seymour in last year's grand final.
The Tigers have lured locals Ben Anderson and Heath Aitken back to the club and have netted former Sydney Swans player Guy Campbell from Echuca.
Former Bendigo Bomber Daniel 'Lenny' Schmidt will again lead last year's premiers, after taking over from 16-year coach Dave Williams at the beginning of last season.
Williams switched to rival club Kyabram last year and will continue in the top job at the Bombers.
Last year's joint Morrison Medal winner Lincoln Withers is expected to return from football in Darwin to line up for the Bombers.
Mansfield is likely to be this year's big improver after appointing former Collingwood premiership player Craig Kelly as senior coach.
The Eagles have recruited well, securing the signatures of two sons of Richmond champion Royce Hart, Simon and Nathan.
Seymour finished runner-up last year after winning three consecutive flags.
The Lions are expected to be near the top of the table once again, under coach Bernie Habermen in his third year at the helm.
Under experienced coach Peter White, the Shepparton Swans are expected to pose a big threat again this season.
Damien Yze has returned to the Swans after a stint with East Burwood.
The Mooroopna Cats, under coach Brad Campbell, are expected to gain a couple of top-line players from powerful suburban club Spotswood.
Shepparton should push up the ladder after signing three dual premiership players from Ovens and Murray club Wangaratta.
The Bears, coached by Richard Warburton, have also netted former Murray Bushrangers players John Walker and Brodie Avard.
Tatura has appointed local lad Paul Serra for his second term as coach and will welcome Linc Wellington and Paul Kirby back to the club.
Echuca has lost some quality players, which is sure to keep coach Brett Henderson on his toes.
Shepparton United will be well lead by Marc Quarell, who has coached Nathalia to two consecutive flags.
Despite some promising juniors, playing depth is expected to pose a problem for United. Tim Symes will again lead the Benalla Saints, but the club is likely to have a lean season after some key players left.
Euroa coach David Putamorsi faces a similar problem.
The season opens with a split round, beginning on April 4.
