LES Gason's retirement after 52 years in the machinery business has led to two new appointments at AF Gason, Ararat, Victoria, while Les takes up the role of chairman.
Peter Piddington has joined AF Gason as sales and marketing manager of the agricultural division.
Peter has 30 years' experience in agricultural sales, most of it with broadacre machinery.
He was most recently general manager of the grape harvesting division of PFG, responsible for the sales of Gregoire and Vinestar equipment.
His previous work has included a long stint with Massey Ferguson, where he was the NSW state manager.
Les said Peter was very well known in the industry and had a thorough knowledge of farmer and dealer requirements.
"Sales this financial year have been excellent, with an increase of 29 per cent over last year," Les said.
"That's across all divisions - broadacre farm machinery, wood and gas heaters, and contract work for other manufacturers.
"The company is in an excellent position and I believe Peter has the skills to take advantage of the opportunities and grow it to a new level," Mr Gason said.
The day-to-day running of the business will be the responsibility of the newly appointed chief executive, Terry Pye.
Terry has extensive experience in running and developing companies in Australia, New Zealand and the US.
As chairman, Les will still be closely involved in the business but not in a hands-on role.
"I may take on some special projects from time to time, but my main ambition is to improve my golf handicap and spend more time with my wife, Barbara," Les said.
"We've always had a strong team. These new appointments will bring in fresh ideas and further strengthen the business.
"I know we are in a tough economic climate, but the future for Gason is very bright."
