FORMER Victorian farm boss Simon Ramsay has failed to win election to the restructured board of the National Farmers' Federation.
Mr Ramsay was one of nine candidates for five board positions, but was unsuccessful at a vote taken at the NFF policy council today
The shock result means Mr Ramsay, who recently finished up as Victorian Farmers Federation president, no longer has any formal position in farm politics, after withdrawing from the contest for the NFF vice presidency.
He also recently failed in a bid to win Liberal pre-selection for the federal seat of Corangamite, currently held by Labor’s Darren Cheeseman.
In other NFF election results, David Crombie was re-elected unopposed for a fourth and final year as NFF president, and Charles Burke retained the vice presidency for another year after fending off a challenge from NSW farm boss Jock Laurie.
Two Victorians - former Cattle Council of Australia president Bill Bray and new VFF president Andrew Broad – took two of the NFF board positions, while NSW farmer Nick Keatinge, Queensland farm body Agforce president John Cotter and Canegrowers chairman Alf Cristaudo were also elected.
Mr Crombie and Mr Burke automatically occupy the other two positions on the seven-member board.
