WONTHAGGI Power Football Club has just seven weeks to decide which league it will play in next year.

The Power was given the deadline in the completed findings of the Victorian Country Football League's South Gippsland review, released today.

The findings document states the club must choose between the West Gippsland Latrobe league and the Casey Cardinia division of the Mornington Peninsula Nepean league by August 25.

The document also reveals Phillip Island will remain in the Alberton Football League, despite an initial VCFL recommendation the club move to Casey Cardinia.

The decision is sure to please Phillip Island officials, who were adamant their club should remain in a ``country'' competition.

The VCFL's frustration at the long-running battle to remove Wonthaggi Power from the Alberton league is evident in its findings document.

It states the VCFL board "is of clear mind that Wonthaggi Power has had ample time to be active about the future home for their club''.

The document also reveals the Power showed ``limited interest'' in a move to the West Gippsland Latrobe league in a June meeting with competition officials, but ``has not had contact with the MPNFL for over 9-10 months''.

Mornington Peninsula Nepean league officials have recently informed the VCFL that there is no certainty Wonthaggi Power would be accepted into the competition.

The West Gippsland Latrobe league remains keen to add the Power to its nine-team fold.

The completed findings document also reveals:

  • The VCFL will contribute ``significant funding'' towards the appointment of a full-time administrator for the Alberton Football League from next season.
  • The VCFL will formally review the league structures in the Ellinbank/Bass Valley geographic area every three years, and monitor the competitive balance of the Alberton league every two to three years.
  • Ellinbank and District league clubs voted against expanding their competition to include clubs at the western end of the Alberton league.
  • None of the 14 Ellinbank and District clubs supported Wonthaggi Power joining their competition.
