VICTORIA'S Becky Allen won the Royal Adelaide Show Jumping World Cup qualifier last Thursday, riding her lovely chestnut thoroughbred Koyuna Ted.

Allen jumped two clear rounds over the 1.45 to 1.60m course, designed by New Zealand international course designer Gerrit Beker.

South Australia's Wendy Schaeffer, a 1996 Olympic eventing gold medallist, was the runner-up, riding Koyuna Sunset. The pair finished just 0.4 of a second slower than Allen.

Third was Michelle Lang-McMahon, riding the stallion Animate. They also jumped a double clear, in a slower time.

Fourth was Kristy Bruhn, riding Harbarty, and fifth was Julia Hargreaves, riding Haymen Pierville, to fill the top five placings with women.

Current Australian World Cup points leader Chris Chugg was the only man to feature in the top order. He placed sixth, riding his Belgian stallion, Vivant. The pair incurred four penalties for a rail down in round one.

Allen, 29, said  after her fifth World Cup qualifier win: "Ted was great; the course lovely. I had a good day."

Allen will look to gain the final part of her World Championship qualification at the Royal Melbourne Show World Cup on Saturday.

She is aiming to be selected in the Australian jumping team for the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, in the US.

International course designer Gerrit Beke set a course of 12 fences, including a double and treble combination from 1.45 to 1.60m in height, plus an open water jump.

Commenting before the event, Beker said he expected four to six clear rounds.

"The course is height-tough but not distance-difficult," he said.

"I expect good jumping today - the footing is perfect, the equipment great."

In the other jumping events, South Australian Michelle Clarke won the Adelaide Grand Prix, riding her black stallion Belcam Gambler.

In section two, Becky Allen's eight-year-old mare RSB Jacana was the best performed young jumping horse of the show, winning two classes and placing in two.

The lovely grey stallion Valhalla, owned by Des Russell and ridden by Jamie Kermond, was impressive in section three, winning a jump-off class and placing in another two. Wendy Schaeffer kept up her form, winning two section one classes and a section two class.

Melissa Julius won a junior class riding Uptown Johnny, Kristy Bruhn was Jumping Rider of the Show and Licara, owned by Paul Kelly, was Jumping Horse of the Show.

Gemma Creighton, from Queensland, was Junior Jumping Rider.

In the hack arena, Victoria's Tammy Kottman won the Champion Hack of the Show, riding her beautiful brown gelding MP Galveston.

Rebecca Farrow, from Gruyere, was crowned the Champion Lady Rider of the Show riding Stage Lyric. This pair also won the over 16.2hh hack class.

Chanele Hunter will be looking for more success in Melbourne next week, after winning the 15.2hh novice and open hack classes riding Crewe.

World Cup jumping now heads to Melbourne for the Melbourne World Cup qualifier on Saturday, at the Royal Melbourne Show.

The first round will be at 4pm and the second round under lights in the evening, in what promises to be great main arena action.
