TWO accomplished country Victorian actors decided the best way to star in a film festival was to start their own.

Warrambeen Film Festival directors Geordie Taylor and Pascal Mercay are confident their inaugural short film festival will fill a gap in the regional arts festival calendar.

"The need to preserve local stories and oral history is so important. We talked a lot about how so many elements of Australian history are just disappearing," Pascal said.

The festival will be held on the Taylor family's Rokewood property, Warrambeen, south of Ballarat, on March 13 next year. with films shown in the woolshed and around the bluestone house and gardens.

Geordie, who is soon to star in Neighbours and City Homicide, and fellow actor Pascal, who will appear in the upcoming World War II mini-series The Pacific, are passionate about the need for regional Victoria to be recognised in film.
