DISCERNING buyers weathered drought-breaking rain to find high performance bulls at value-for-money rates at the PertGenetics, Glenaroua, on property spring bull sale.

In all, 27 of the 36 Angus, Black Simmental and hybrid bulls offered sold for an average of $2500 and reached a top of $4500.

The sale last week coincided with the best day of rain on the stud's base near Broadford in three years, principal Martin Grimwade said.

Ian Follett of Miora bought the top priced bull, PertAngus C71, sired by BT Equator 395M.

The sire had estimated breeding values of  +1.6 for birth weight, +93 for 600 day weight, +13 for milk, +2.1 for eye muscle area and +1.1 for intramuscular fat.

Mr Follett and Delta Station, Jerilderie, NSW, emerged as the key volume buyers, taking home six bulls each.

Mr Grimwade said discerning buyers took the opportunity to put together lines of impressive bulls at value prices and that, under the seasonal circumstances, the sale was satisfactory.

He said he was most pleased to see a mix of repeat and new buyers.

"It is always pleasing to see your bulls go to new areas and operations and satisfying to see happy repeat buyers walk in the gate,'' he said.
