BUYERS chasing high growth bulls pushed prices to a top of $8000 at The Glen Angus and Murray Grey sale today.
Held on-property at Walwa in the Upper Murray by the Gadd family, the 39th annual sale attracted 42 registered buyers.
From the 52 spring and autumn 2008 drop bulls offered, 45 sold to average $3522 and gross $158,500.
Bulls sold to the Upper Murray, Bendigo, Casterton, Narromine, West Wyalong, Yanco, Mudgee, Albury and Henty.
Yanco Agricultural High School, in the westerrn Riverina, paid $8000 for the top price bull, The Glen Clancy.
A son of Perry Power Design, the March 2008 drop bull weighed 724kg and ranked in the top one per cent for growth on Breedplan.
Yanco principal Daryl Finch said the bull was a replacement for another lost in an accident at the school's stud.
The Glen stud principal Mike Gadd said the sale had attracted solid support from repeat clients.
"People were after good growth rates and muscling,'' he said.
"The Te Mania Ada sired cattle were also well sought after.
''Repeat client Phil Whiteley, of Corryong, bought seven bulls for his family's cattle enterprise.
"A lot of bulls sold within 150km - it is shaping up to be one of the best springs we've had,'' he said.
