PATCHY rain has failed to dampen the spirits of early arrivals at this year's Deniliquin Ute Muster and Play on the Plains Festival.
Utes from around Australia are rolling into the 48ha site, with the crowd expected to swell later today and early tomorrow morning.Event organisers said ticket sales indicated this year’s crowd would be similar to last year’s record attendance of 25,000.
Timboon dairy farmer Cherie McKenzie was one of the early arrivals.
``I’ve been coming since 2004, and it’s just a great weekend to relax and have fun with friends,’’ she said.
Performances by country favourites Troy Cassar-Daly, Adam Harvey and The Sunny Cowgirls will kick off the weekend entertainment later tonight.
Guinness World Records officials will oversee the muster’s first officially-sanctioned blue singlet count tomorrow afternoon. The traditional ute count will be held on Sunday.
Last year 7242 utes were counted at the muster.
