LEADING US cattleman Lee Leachman will share his knowledge on genetics with visitors to a field day organised by Paringa Livestock at Yea on October 13.

The day will focus on how to achieve a sustainable profit through genetics and improving soil management.

Mr Leachman will discuss how the Leachman stud - which sells more than 1000 Angus, Red Angus, Charolais and Stabiliser bulls annually - has worked with clients to differentiate their product.

He will also discuss how cross-breeding relates in terms of maternal cow size and other on-farm efficiencies.

Tom Bull of Lambpro NSW will also speak on genetics and performance recording, while Dr Christine Jones will provide an update on soil carbon research.

Skipping show pays off

RIVERINA Blonde d'Aquitaine breeder Ian Fox's decision to bypass the Royal Melbourne Show and "look north" paid off.

Mr Fox, of Cobram, displayed purebred bulls and commercial crossbred cows with calves for the first time at the Henty Machinery Field Days.

He said the interest was so high he has put a proposal to the field days committee to conduct an expanded breed feature next year.

"We had interested people coming from Gilgandra, West Wyalong, Orange, Young, Mansfield and Corryong," Mr Fox said.

"I have not exhibited at Henty before due to commitments with Melbourne Royal and decided the time was right to look north."
