A BLAST of wintry weather failed to deter visitors flocking to the first day of the Elmore Machinery Field Days yesterday.

By 11am, crowd numbers were steadily growing despite a nippy southerly breeze and forecast of snow on the ranges.

Elmore Machinery Field Days president Darren Trewick said expectations were high following spring rain.

"Crops and pasture in the district look absolutely fantastic," Mr Trewick said.

"It's a big turnaround from the past three or four years when the spring was pretty much a non-event."

Among the early visitors to the field days were Neil Dudley and Philip Muller, who were looking at rollers to use behind seed drills.

Neil said he has been coming to Elmore for about 20 years.

"It's a great place to see the latest developments in machinery and compare what's on the market," Neil said.

Another regular visitor to Elmore, Chas Horvath, from Junortoun, near Bendigo, said he would never miss the event.

"I might miss the Melbourne Show but I won't miss Elmore," Chas said.

The field days end tomorrow.
