LOOK at mulching the garden now and applying a wetting agent, if you haven't done so already.
The correct time to apply mulch is when rainfall is lower and the soil is starting to dry out.
Too much mulch will not allow water to penetrate, so don't overdo it; a 2-4cm layer of mixed-size mulch particles is ideal.
Feed your plants before applying the mulch and add a wetting agent if the water tends to bead and run off rather than soak in.
Pots and hanging baskets can be treated with a wetting agent and mulch too.
