COLEAMBALLY lamb producer Stan Rice is having a bet each way with his turnoff this year.
Recently, the NSW producer accepted as little as $89 for his suckers, but last week received $108 for this season's lambs, which had an estimated carcass weight of about 21-22kg.
And while he wasn't happy receiving less than $100, Mr Rice said for him, it was a matter of balancing between getting enough and being greedy.
"I didn't think $89 was enough a couple of weeks ago, but I'm satisfied in getting more than $100 considering the age of the lambs (April-May drop)," Mr Rice said.
"If we don't sell now, we would have to shear these early lambs and hang onto them until at least Christmas, and we might even get the same money then."
