DISCERNING buyers weathered drought-breaking rain to buy value-for-money high-performance bulls at the PertGenetics, Glenaroua, on-property spring bull sale last week.

Twenty-seven of the 36 Angus, Black Simmental and hybrid bulls offered sold, to a top of $4500 and average of $2500.

The sale coincided with the best day of rain at the stud's Broadford headquarters in three years, principal Martin Grimwade said.

Ian Follett, of Moira, bought the top-priced bull, PertAngus C71, sired by BT Equator 395M.

The sire had estimated breeding values of +1.6kg for birth weight, +93kg for 600 day weight, +13kg for milk, +2.1 square cm for eye muscle area and +1.1 per cent for intramuscular fat.

Mr Follett and Delta Station, Jerilderie, NSW, were the major buyers. Mr Grimwade described the sale as satisfactory given the seasonal conditions..

THE Weekly Times last week reported that the exhibitor of the export champion steer or heifer in the live judging of the Royal Melbourne Show carcass competition was Eden Park at Gowrie, NSW. Eden Park is in fact located near Drouin.
