IT WAS with great interest that I read of the Thomas the Tank Engine Competition on the same page as your article on Yarram (``Town opens for inspection'', WT, September 9).

My eldest son was a newly appointed veterinarian who worked for several years in Yarram around the late 1990s.

He often spoke of his delight in working there, travelling to farms and the people he met - they were so interesting that his work became rewarding and challenging.

While he is operating on a friend's dog, I have been asked to watch two of my grandsons.

The eldest little boy is suffering from tonsillitis and watching an old Thomas the Tank Engine video, which I have picked up at an op shop. He couldn't be happier telling me who is who.

I am a grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren, all under four years of age, and granddad and I have for many many years enjoyed The Weekly Times.

I can't see that changing soon - keep up the good work.

Thank you for Miranda's column, it has always been my personal favourite.
