TWO-and-a-half years ago I was faced with the biggest tragedy of my life.

My 36-year-old husband of 11 years committed suicide on the farm.

I not only had to face this, but had to decide whether I could continue running the farm on my own.

I decided to try and was amazed at the community support I received.

My friends, family, neighbours and local business all rallied to support me during harvest season and with cattle and meals. It still continues today.

I was unaware of the statistics of farm suicide until I was a victim of it.

I don't feel so much like a victim any more. I am a survivor and have learnt the hard way that if you need help you only have to ask, so that's what I do.

I do understand it's easier for women to ask than men, but it doesn't have to be.

I am slowly moving on with my life and have a good man to share it with, but some days are challenging.

I just want people to know  there is help if you need it. You just have to ask.

It's easier said than done sometimes. I know that too.
