THE Goulburn River, at Thornton, is firing for trout on flies.
Mick Hall reports brown and rainbow trout to 700g are being caught on parachute duns, elk hair caddi and gold beadhead nymphs.
Lake Eildon has yellowbelly to 3kg, caught on lures, cast from shore or slow-trolled.
Eildon Pondage is starting to produce some of the big trout released recently by Fisheries Victoria.
Rainbow trout to 2.3kg are being caught on powerbait and gold croc lures.
In the Victorian alpine region, Geoff Lacey reports the upper Mitta Mitta has pan-size rainbow and brown trout.
Mt Beauty Pondage has rainbow trout to 600g.
The Kiewa River at Tawonga is producing trout on lures.
In the Western District, Doug Lucas says Lake Bullen Merri has rainbow trout to 37cm.
Mt Emu Creek and the Merri River are fishing well, with brown trout from 600g to 2.5kg, caught on minnow lures.
Lorne pier has been fishing well for silver trevally, barracouta and salmon.
In Port Phillip Bay, Brett Terossi reports the snapper are starting to fire up, with reds from 3.5kg to 6.5kg caught from many areas. Baits include squid, silver whiting, pilchard and soft plastic lures.
Calamari squid to 2kg are being caught in the Lonsdale Bight on jigs.
In South Gippsland, Western Port has snapper to 7.2kg. Top baits include trevally, salmon and squid fillets, and pilchards.
King George whiting are biting on pipi, mussel and fresh squid from Flinders to Balnarring, and calamari squid are being caught at Flinders.
In the Gippsland Lakes, the Mitchell River has bream biting on spider crab and prawn in the Backwater and Eagle Point.
The Tambo and Nicholson Rivers are producing bream on prawn.
Lakes Entrance has good numbers of silver trevally, caught on pilchard strips.
At Lake Tyers, trolling metal lures is producing tailor; bream are biting on prawn and pilchard and dusky flathead are being caught on soft plastic lures.
Marlo has bream to 1kg.
At Mallacoota Inlet, bream are in the rivers above the Top Lake.
