FIRST cross ewes sold to a top of $196 at Benalla today.
The top price for 166 of Rob and Tim Hayes's Tarcombe May/June drop Border Leicester Merino cross ewes matched the top price at Bendigo of two days ago.
Despite the relatively small yarding of 6500 head, there was no shortage of buyers.
For Rob Hayes from Tarcombe it was a big $80 lift on last year.
"It's about time," said a jubilant Mr Hayes, whose second run of 189 head sold for $187.
The buyer of the Tarcombe ewes, which were buy Kelso Superborder rams was Lima South grazier Ewen White.
Bungeet vendor Peter Alexander was another satisfied seller.
He sold more than 500 2008-drop ewes to a top of $181 and averaging $179.
Mr Alexander said these were ewes he bought as woolly seven-month -old lambs out of Walgett on AuctionPlus in February for a landed price of $80.
The proceeds from two shearings paid for for the stock treatments.
The Benalla yarding of 2500 2008-drop ewes sold upwards of $120.
The best of the ewe lambs sold to $150.
Most of the joinable ewe lambs sold from $120.
Leo White of TB White and Sons Ballarat bought several of the ewe lambs pens.
Mr White said while the prices for older ewes matched Bendigo's rates, the ewe lambs were a lot cheaper.
The best of the first cross wether lambs sold for $87.
Restockers from Shepparton were the keenest bidders on the wethers lambs.
