VISITORS to the Ballarat Show were down by more than 50 per cent on Friday after changes to Victorian public holiday legislation that came into force this year.
Before the changes were introduced, Ballarat schools and businesses had the choice to allocate the Friday of the three-day show as their November holiday.
The Ballarat Cup day was also a public holiday.
But since the changes have been made, Ballarat City Council has been required to allocate just one, uniform local holiday and it chose the Ballarat Cup, which is held today.
