MORRIS Industries' latest precision seed drill has a working width of 7.62m, but folds to a 3m width for safe transport.

The 7.62m Morris is one of two narrow transport, or NT, machines and Morris Industries and ProAg product manager Justin James said both have independently sprung shanks and tines or boots.

"With each sowing tine being independent of the other, the NT drills ensure good contour following and accuracy of seed planting," Justin said.

"The boots and shanks are attached in a true parallelogram arrangement so the relationship between the packer wheel and the shank remains the same as the tine moves up and down.

"That means very accurate depth control.

And the shanks have 180mm of travel downwards and 255mm travel upwards, so they can cope with a variety of soil conditions."

Justin said changing the depth of seed placement requires no tools and the sowing depth can be as deep as 150mm.

"Despite the working width of 7.62m, thanks to the well engineered design, the NT drills can be towed by front-wheel-assist tractors with around 150kW engine power."

The Morris NT drills come standard with row spacings of 250mm and 300mm.

There is an option to move to a 380mm spacing if needed.

With 250mm spacings, there are 30 openers and with 300mm spacings there are 25 openers.

Justin said the NT seeders had generated a lot of interest at various field days in the past few months.

"There has been a lot of interest on the narrow transport width," Justin said.

"And the machine's ability to efficiently and accurately sow a variety of seeds from smaller grains such as canola to larger ones such as beans."

There are several options for the boots or points of the tines.

The standard is a paired-row boot which places the seed and fertiliser in separate rows.

Known as a double-shoot opener, the boot places seed and fertiliser in a paired row configuration and provides better seedbed utilisation, according to Justin.

Rubber packer wheels, available in pneumatic and semi-pneumatic provide on-row packing and good seed to soil contact.

Morris has also recently added a 7130 tow-between air cart to its range of precision seeders.

The 4700-litre capacity air cart is available with either ground-driven or variable drive metering and offers a 180mm diameter auger for quick loading and unloading.
