IT WAS an all-American flavour at Yarra Glen Racecourse, northeast of Melbourne, earlier this month, when an array of classic and vintage US cars and motorcycles went on display.

The 35th All-American GM Day Car Show, organised by the Lions Club of Nunawading, raised more than $15,000 for community projects.

Club spokesman Paul Ross said the day had drawn out some wonderful old vehicles from around Melbourne and across Victoria.

"There were more than 250 cars there and about 30 motorcycles," Paul said.

"The best car prize went to a 1956 Oldsmobile convertible, while the best bike was a 1940s Indian.

"We saw Corvettes, Buicks, Oldsmobiles - all those classic big-finned cars.

"We estimated we had 3000 people come through the gates, despite the fact that it was a very hot day."
