VOLKSWAGEN'S answer to boosting the appeal of its modest-selling Jetta is to give buyers more choice.
This Golf with a boot now comes with a choice of five engine three diesels and two petrols.
New to the stable is a 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine, known as the 1.6 77TDI (77kW), coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox or a new seven-speed, direct-shift transmission.
Also new is the high-performance 2.0-litre turbo diesel, the 2.0 125TDI (125kW), mated to a six-speed DSG.
The seven-speed DSG is now also available in the carry-over 1.4 turbo petrol, the 118TSI (118kW).
All models now have front and rear parking sensors, coupled with an optical parking display.
Prices start at $28,990 for the 1.6 77TDI manual and climb to $38,990 for both the 2.0 125TDI Highline and the 2.0 147TSI Highline.
Volkswagen has also added the 1.6 diesel to the Golf range.
The Golf 1.6 77TDI is priced at $28,690 for the manual and $31,190 for the seven-speed DSG.
